Activities Offered through Western Maryland Adventures

Our children's programs are designed for ages 5 - 8. Younger children may attend with an adult to assist them. Adults, couples, and families may also enjoy bike rentals, geocaching, hiking, and many other outdoor activities while staying at Rocky Gap.

When the sun sets at Rocky Gap, it's time to unwind by the campfire. Roast a marshmallow or buy a s'mores pack for a real treat! So, wander down to the backyard behind the pool for our lakeside campfire.
Friday and Saturday Evenings.

Sorry Mom and Dad this night is just for the kids!
Treasure hunts, magic, superheroes, science, games, arts & crafts, and more can all be part of this unique program. There is always something for everyone at Kid's Night Out! Make sure you get your dinner order in when you register because dinner is included. Don't worry about dessert. You'll make your own treat. We will stop by the campfire to roast a marshmallow or two!
Kid's ages 5-12, take your parents to Guest Services to register prior to 5:00pm. $25 per child (dinner included.)

The Aviary
Native birds of prey are able to be viewed up close at this unique educational facility. Here you can learn how each animal became part of the Scales & Tales program and what makes them so important to the balance of nature. Bike Rentals
Delight in a scenic 7-mile country road bike ride or just take a relaxing tour of the park. Stop by Guest Services for equipment and maps.

Geocaching
Whether you are looking for a new sport or are a seasoned cacher, a fun-filled treasure hunt awaits you here at Rocky Gap. With the use of one of our hand-held Global Positioning Systems, combined with your navigational wits, you and your family can set out on an adventure that is fun for all ages.

Hiking
Rocky Gap offers a variety of hiking trails that guests can enjoy. When planning your trip, a good rule of thumb is people hike about 1 mile in twenty minutes!
Lakeside Loop Trail- 4.7 mi. - moderate
Our newest trail gives hikers an opportunity to see everything Rocky Gap State Park has to offer. This loop trail takes you alongside beautiful Lake Habeeb.
Canyon Overlook Trail- .4 mi. - easy
This trail gives hikers the gift of a magnificent view of the one-mile gorge from where the park takes its name.
Evitts Homesite Trail- 5.6 mi. - challenging
Rock-hop down into the canyon and find yourself surrounded by hemlock, laurel and rhododendron. Then cross the small cascading stream on the footbridge and begin to climb about 1000 feet in elevation in 2.5 miles. Plan to take drinking water and spend several hours.
Campfires are held Friday and Saturday from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm in the backyard of the lodge.
Boat rentals are closed for the Fall/Winter. Boat rental hours will be available in Spring 2008. Hours will be M-F 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm Saturday and Sunday hours are 8:00 am - 6:00 pm.
Beginning Tuesday September 5th children's activities will be offered on Fri, Sat and Sun only. Special children's programs are available upon request for groups of 5 or more.
Guest service hours will remain daily from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.
